1-800-Flowers
"Fields of the Virtual World" Contest

On September 6th, 2008, Cranial Tap launched a Second Life contest for 1-800-Flowers called
"Fields of the Virtual World". The contest asked users to submit pictures of Second Life
flowers along with a short story.
Five semi-finalists were selected to compete for the grand prize: a video interview
with their avatar was then played on a fifteen foot video screen in Times Square during
November and December. The grand prize winner was voted for by the residents of
Second Life themselves.
Cranial Tap developed the kiosk technology that accepted the entries as well as tracked
and reported system metrics. Like the kiosks, the entry displays were built from scratch
by Cranial Tap and included such functionality as displaying story names, giving story
notecards to visitors, and allowing visitors to vote for the grand prize winner.
